BIOPOD DOWN HYBRID ICE EXTREME 180
Ideal sleeping bag when it gets really cold!
High-quality sleeping bag for mountain and trekking tours with wool part for a better dry sleeping climate. The Biopod Down Hybrid Ice Extreme was developed for use below freezing point.
Its comfortably cut mummy shape makes it light and small in pack size. The washable carbon heating element is also very practical - simply connect it to the power bank and the foot area is heated.
A deep and recuperative sleep is especially important after an active day. That's why our sleeping bags are cut more comfortably, while we also pay attention to light weight and small packing volume.
The fabrics used are made from recycled, highly breathable and robust nylon. If necessary, the sleeping bag can be refilled with down at a Grüezi bag service partner. This guarantees a long service life.
The hybrid sleeping bags use high-quality down and lavalan® AlmWolle.
ELABORATE HYBRID CONSTRUCTION
The finest goose down (90/10, 800+ cuin, RDS certified) is used as insulation material in our hybrid sleeping bags. The innovative V-Shaped chamber system is supported in sensitive body zones by even more filled box chambers. In addition, further side chambers provide balanced insulation.
A layer of pure lavalan® AlmWolle is used as a further insulation layer. This makes the sleeping bag unique.
The lavalan® AlmWolle not only provides additional insulation, but can absorb 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling damp. This prevents condensation on the inside of the outer shell. The wool thus protects the down from moisture. Because only dry and fluffy down insulates optimally! The combination of the two insulation materials, down and wool, creates a dry, warm climate: this is the best prerequisite for a restful and good night's sleep.
A sleeping bag only stores the heat that a person gives off. Often, however, a person is no longer able to warm themselves or the sleeping bag. Be it because they are exhausted or ill. Especially the foot space is difficult to warm up with cold feet. That is why a heating element has been integrated into the hybrid sleeping bags, which can be operated by means of a commercially available power bank. After about 15 minutes, the sleeping bag is snug and warm for the night. Of course, the washable carbon heating element can be removed easily and quickly.
Grüezi bag takes responsibility for the geese and sheep that produce the insulation materials. That is why only wool from the Alpine region and RDS-certified down are used.

WHAT IS DOWNWOOL HYBRID?
What makes this sleeping bag special is its innovative hybrid insulation. The insulation is naturally less sensitive to high humidity. In a DownWool hybrid sleeping bag, you'll immediately notice the wide temperature comfort range, where you'll never be too cold or too hot.
This is achieved through the innovative layered construction of high-quality, animal welfare-certified (RDS-certified) European goose down (800+ cuin) and a layer of wool from the Alps. This patented combination acts like a lightweight and natural air conditioner.
Down: excellent insulation performance only when dry!
- High-quality down provides exceptional insulation at a low weight. However, down clumps together in high humidity (air, sweat, condensation) and loses its insulating properties. Grüezi bag solves this problem with its innovative 2-layer construction of wool and down.
Wool: effective moisture and temperature regulation
- Thanks to the wool layer in DownWool Hybrid sleeping bags, the down stays naturally drier and thus retains its insulating properties: In winter temperatures, everyone sweats up to 1.5 liters per night. This body moisture evaporates inside the sleeping bag and, at sub-zero temperatures, condenses on the inside of the outer shell, dripping onto the down, which then loses its insulating power. The wool layer in Grüezi bag® hybrid sleeping bags absorbs the moisture and releases it to the outside, so the down stays dry and maintains its high insulating capacity. Wool can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture through its capillaries and release it gradually to the outside.
- DownWool hybrid not only effectively regulates moisture but also body temperature. This is because wool prevents cooling through evaporation and retains its warming properties even when damp, something no other material can do.
- Wool naturally creates a pleasant microclimate due to its unique climate-balancing properties.
- Furthermore, wool neutralizes unpleasant odors.
The result: excellent insulation and a wide temperature range in which you feel comfortable and can sleep well. Furthermore, DownWool-Hybrid is less sensitive to high humidity, making Grüezi bag® sleeping bags high-performance sleeping bags below freezing.
WHAT IS A CARBON HEATING ELEMENT?
A sleeping bag simply retains the heat emitted by the person. However, often a person is no longer able to warm themselves or the sleeping bag sufficiently, whether due to exhaustion or illness. The foot area, in particular, is difficult to warm with cold feet. For this reason, this sleeping bag has an integrated heating element (Grüezi bag® Carbon Heating Element) that can be powered by a standard power bank.
- The sleeping bag will become cuddly warm within about 15 minutes.
- The carbon heating element is designed to limit the heating power to approximately 40 °C (104 °F) to prevent sweating and the resulting moisture that could lead to further chilling.
- The heating element is integrated into the foot section, so that the heat is distributed evenly from bottom to top and there is sufficient distance to the body to ensure a restful sleep.
- The heating element is washable and can be washed along with the sleeping bag.
- Please observe the warning and safety instructions.

CARE
- The washing instructions are located in the inner pocket of the sleeping bag.
- The sleeping bag can be hand-washed with a down detergent at a maximum temperature of 30°C/86°F or machine-washed on a wool cycle. Please turn inside out, close the zipper, perform an extra rinse cycle, and do not use fabric softener.
- Remove the items from the machine, loosen them up a bit, and perform another spin cycle at a maximum of 600 revolutions.
Dry
- Tumble dry at max. 60 °C/ 140 °F and be sure to add 2-3 tennis balls for better fluffing.
- Please perform several drying cycles, removing the item from the machine after each cycle, shaking or loosening it well, and allowing it to cool down in between.
- The dryer must be set to a timer program to dry the down completely.
- If a dryer is not used, the sleeping bag can be placed on a clothes rack on sunny days and shaken frequently to allow air to reach the sleeping bag from above and below.
When is the drying process complete?
- If the item still does not have its original thickness, the drying process must be repeated until the sleeping bag feels more filled than before.
- Depending on the waterproofness of the outer material, the drying process can take different amounts of time (at least 2 days, depending on the dryer model).
- The down must be completely dry. If the sleeping bag hasn't been properly dried and fluffed, the down feathers may clump together, which can irreparably damage the sleeping bag. You can tell the product is completely dry because it will feel fuller and thicker than before. Damp down can have an unpleasant odor, but this will disappear after drying.
TIP
- Down sleeping bags should be dried in a tumble dryer with tennis balls from time to time or after every trip to remove excess moisture.
- Sleeping bags must be stored open and dry in their storage bag.
- When packing the sleeping bag into the compression sack, it must be stuffed with the foot end first, not rolled or folded.
- Airing out a sleeping bag is better than washing it. DownWool-Hybrid® sleeping bags rarely need washing, as wool itself has natural odor-resistant and dirt-repellent properties. For minor external soiling, we recommend gently cleaning only the stain itself (like this); heavily soiled or greasy sleeping bags can be machine washed.
- A sleeping mat should be used under every sleeping bag, as the insulation is compressed downwards inside the sleeping bag and therefore cannot trap air and thus heat. You can find more information about choosing the right sleeping mat here .
